The Omni Parker House in Boston…

The Hotel with a “ MAGICAL” Past… and Present

Omni Parker House

When I went searching the city of Boston for a venue for my new one-man Close Up Magic Show I had three things in mind.   First… I wanted a venue that was in the heart of the city of Boston.  Two… I wanted a venue that had class, style and a touch of history.  And Three… I was hoping for a venue with an interesting story attached to it.  Of course I never really expected to get all three… but I got all three in “spades” at The Omni Parker House, the location of my new show Miracles & Other Deceptions: The Close Up Magic of Paul Gertner

It turns out The Omni Parker House, the oldest continuously operating hotel in America has a magical history all it’s own.  It is the perfect venue for an evening of magic and mystery that happens right before your eyes and even in your hands.  Recognized as the most “haunted hotel” in New England (some say in all of America) an evening walk through the classic hallways is practically a show in itself.

You might find elevator number one… mysteriously opening at the third floor (who pushed that button?) encouraging you to take a walk down the hallway to the original location of room 303 where a suicide was reported to have occurred.  Many guests reported that they smelled whiskey and heard voices, and saw strange shadows coming from the room… so many that the establishment eventually gave up and turned room 303 into a storage closet.

If you take a stroll on the 9th or 10th floor you may even run into a gentleman in colonial garb… down the hall and Charles Dickensthrough the walls… don’t worry it’s probably just Harvey Parker going for his evening walk.  And who knows… if you if you are staying in room 1012 (the most requested room in the hotel) Mr. Parker may make an appearance at the end of your bed inquiring if you are enjoying your stay at his fine establishment.  What a prankster that Harvey Parker is.

Or if you are waiting at the bank of elevators on the Mezzanine Level (the same floor my show Miracles & Other Deceptions takes place) you might want to take a closer look at the huge Charles Dickens Mirror that is hanging at the end of the wall. Mr. Dickens used to rehearse his dramatic readings including his classic  “A Christmas Carol” in front this exact same mirror.  Can you see the ghost of his reflection?  Rumor has it that if you stand in front of the mirror and say the words “Charles Dickens” three times sometimes unusual things can happen.  One person reported seeing the name of someone no longer living being written in fog on the mirror in reverse script from the inside of the mirror.  “Charles Dickens… Charles Dickens…(I’m afraid to say it a third time).

Are any of these magical ghost stories true? We don’t really know.  But every Friday Night at the Omni Parker House, you can join me as I perform 75-minutes of my own, original Miracles that will have you believing… anything is possible!  As for the ghost stories… I say:  “Those stories are part of the  “other deceptions” in the show.   Are they real?  Join us Friday Night at The Omni Parker House and see for yourself.

Miracles & Other Deceptions

Paul Gertner performing his show Miracles and Other DeceptionsMiracles & Other Deceptions: The Close Up Magic of Paul Gertner is unique in that each performance is limited it to a small intimate audience of 24-30 people.  This is to insure that you can experience Paul’s sleight-of-hand magic as it was designed to be seen… close up and right before your eyes.  Due to the intimate nature of the performance environment everyone has a great seat and an excellent view of the magic.  At times during the show Paul even invites audience member to stand and watch closer… or to watch from the sides or from behind… but you still will not learn the secrets.  The first row of VIP At the Tables Seats offer 10 lucky people the chance to become part of the show (if they choose to) by selecting and signing cards, thinking thoughts or watching the magic happen literally at their fingertips.   This is a once in a lifetime experience to see a world-class master of sleight-of-hand magic that will create memories that will last a lifetime.  Friday Nights 7:00pm (9:00pm show added some nights) at The Omni Parker House downtown Boston, on the Freedom Trail.
